Mrs. Erika Staton-Ferbee Obituary

Erika Staton Ferbee, age 55, of Hampton, Virginia, passed away on January 12, 2026, at Sentara CarePlex Hospital in Hampton, Virginia.

Erika was born on April 4, 1970, in Hampton, Virginia, to the late Robert Lee Staton, Sr. and Lucille Delois Staton (Whitaker).

Erika was a devoted wife and mother whose greatest joy was her family. She married her high school sweetheart, Lawrence— known as her “Sweetie”—on October 1, 2005. Their marriage was filled with love and laughter, and from their union came their beloved daughter, Lauryn.

Erika was known for her loving kindness, strong faith, dedication to family, and tireless work ethic. She was a faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church where she found strength and spiritual guidance. She graduated from Menchville High School in Newport News in 1988 and continued her education at Key Business College and Thomas Nelson Community College while building her career. Erika worked for 32 years in the Quality Inspection Department at Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company. She also worked as a staff member at Colonial Downs in Hampton. Most recently, she served on the custodial staff at Waller Mill Elementary School in York County, Virginia, where she was named Support Staff of the Year for the 2024–2025 school year. Erika often shared stories about the joy she found working with her WMES family.

Erika lived a life of generosity and compassion, always giving her time and resources to help family and friends. She loved spending time with loved ones, learning about family history, and engaging in meaningful conversation. She was known for ending every conversation with the words, “I love you always and forever.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Lee Staton, Sr. and Lucille Delois Staton; her sister Barbara J. Staton; her nephew, Troy L. Byrd, Jr.; her great niece Carryne L. Jeter; her Uncles-in-Love Levon Raynor, Darrell Raylor; her Aunt-in-Love Donzella Bagley; her grandparents, as well as additional aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Lawrence C. Ferbee, Jr.; her daughter, Lauryn C. Ferbee; her mother-in-law, Joyce Ann Ferbee of Hampton; her aunts, Shirley Whitaker (Norman Sr.) of Henrico, Martha Moore of Scotland Neck, North Carolina; Aunts-in-Law Bridget Dudley of Hampton Queen Clay of Middletown, CT, Barbara Holley of Newport News, Denise Raylor of Ahoskie, NC, and Rosas Winston of Colerain, NC; her uncles, Troy Whitaker Jr. of New York City and Earl Whitaker (Mildred) of Las Vegas, Nevada; Uncles-in-Law Scottie Raynor of Hampton, Randolph Raynor of Hampton, Joseph Venable of Newport News, Murad Nuriddin of Jacksonville, FL and George Minns of Newport News; her sisters, LaVerne Byrd (Troy) of Las Vegas, Nevada, Karen Staton of Newport News, and Sharon Echard (Patrice) of Waldorf, Maryland; her brother, Robert L. Staton, Jr. of Newport News.

She is also survived by her nieces and nephews: LaTonya Byrd of Las Vegas, Nevada; Ashley Dandridge of Richmond; Benjamin Jeter IV of Newport News; Christopher Jeter of Richmond; Ayanna Echard of Waldorf, MD, Quinten Echard of Waldorf, MD; Jabari Staton of Hampton, Robert L. Staton III of Hampton; her great-nieces and nephews, Ashary and Austin Dandridge of Richmond; her cousins, Julius Williams (Marie) of Smithfield, Barbara Beale of Scotland Neck, North Carolina, Larry Moore (Crystal) of Hampton, Shelby Carolina (Herbert) of Nokesville, Virginia, Norman Whitaker Jr. (Tiffani) of Springdale, Maryland, Michelle Williams (Craig) of Henrico, Sherwood Whitaker (Masonda) of Bristow, Virginia, and Andrea Edwards of Portsmouth, Demetra Campbell of Ayden, NC, and Barry Staton Jr. of Scotland Neck NC; and her dear friends, Janet Davis of Hampton, Kalton Hilliard-Freeman of Waldorf, Maryland, and Todd Bartee of Hampton.
