Mrs. Emma Blount Obituary

Mrs. Emma Grey Blount, affectionately known as “Boy” transitioned from her earthly to heavenly home on May 20, 2025.  She was born on September 14, 1949, in the New Holland community of Swan Quarter, NC to the late Armstead and Louella R. Sadler.  She was one of ten children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Armstead and Louella R. Sadler; three brothers, Armstead Sadler Jr, Joesph Sadler, and Sammie Lee Collins; five sisters, Marjorie S Topping, Beatrice Lucus, Shirley Merrick, Anne Sadler, and Maye Taylor.

Emma, a woman who was the epitome of grace, kindness, and unwavering love, lived a life filled with warmth, laughter, and quiet strength. Emma is leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.  Her love and compassion were shown in always putting others before herself.  A woman of wisdom in the words she spoke, her actions towards people and her faith in the goodness of people.  Whether through her enduring friendships, dedication to family, or countless small gestures of generosity, Emma made the world a better place. Her greatest joy was the time spent with her family and friends, creating memories that will be cherished forever.

Emma was a graduate of OA Peay. Upon graduating from high school, she studied at Kitrell College, NC.  She spent early adult years in Buffalo New York. Then transitioned to Hampton Virginia, where she married and started her family.  Emma loved to read and developed her aspirations for becoming an independent business owner, for over 35 years.

Emma joined Lincoln Park Baptist Church in the late 1970’s. She served faithfully as a member of the Red Headers Society Club until her death.

She was blessed with the opportunity to exemplify many characteristics throughout her earthly life towards her family and friends to include loving wife, grandmother, caring sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. However, the characteristic she cherished the most are giving and loving.

To those who knew and loved Emma, she was a guiding light—a source of wisdom, comfort, and unconditional love. Although she is no longer physically with us, her spirit will remain in the laughter of shared stories, the kindness passed from one heart to another, and the love that endures beyond time.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband William Jerome Blount; 3 children Chinell J’ray Blount of Upper Marlboro, MD, Ashia La’shay Corker (Christopher) of Woodbridge, VA, and William Jerome Blount, Jr. of Newport News, VA;  5 grandchildren, Paris, Dave III, Hameen, Jalil, and Christian; Brother: Samuel Sadler, of Dallas Texas; Nephew Willie Lee Lucus, Nieces: Mary Gibbs (Wallace), Dorene Holloway (Floyd), Brenda Murray, Debra Johnson (Rodney) Carolyn Johnson,  Linda Merrick , Nerissa Merrick , Pamela Green (Oris),  Elise Sadler Williams (David),  Louella Sadler Elizabeth Ashford, Yvette Powell, Paulita Taylor, and Evelina Dixon.
