Mrs. Elizabeth ‘Tina’ Carter a loving mother, grandmother, great-grand mother, sister, and friend. After a courageous battle of a recent illness, she fought with a smile and pride. She was called home on September 6, 2023 at 72 years old in Newport News, Virginia with her family by her side.
She was born to the late Ira Bernice and Wash Hudson ‘W.H.’ Triplett on April 1st, 1951 in Philadelphia, Mississippi.
Elizabeth's mother, ‘Ira B’, was the most influential person in her life raising four beautiful girls by herself, after the death of her husband.
After marrying her first love, the late Columbus Patterson Jr., she gave birth to her only child, Patrick Patterson Sr. Patrick became the light of her life and she dedicated her life to being a doting mother, to, in her words “the best son in the world.”
She later remarried the late, Howard Carter, and was blessed with a beautiful bonus daughter and grandchildren whom she loved like her own.
Her determined spirit pushed her to be one of few women forklift operators at Cardinal Glass Company in Atlanta, Georgia. After retiring and moving to Virginia, she joined the New Hope Baptist Church where she enjoyed being a dedicated member of the Usher Board. She loved her Church and loved her Pastor.
In more recent years, she enjoyed volunteering with the Peninsula Foster Grandparent Program as a Foster Grandparent to pre-school aged little ones, spending time with her great-grandkids during the summer and watching her favorite news anchor on WAVY-TV 10.
Elizabeth lived her life to the fullest, always bringing joy and laughter to everyone she met. She had a way of bringing light and positivity to any situation with her quick wit and funny nicknames. Elizabeth will be remembered for her contagious smile, classy dress, generosity, ambition, the courage to ‘tell it like it is’ and to love the Lord unapologetically.
Elizabeth is proceeded in death by her parents and her sister Linda Ann Buckley.
She is survived by her two sisters Iris (Willie) Roberts, Barbara Ann Triplett and Brother-in-law, Davis Buckley; son Patrick (Tracy) Patterson, stepdaughter Deborah Carter; four grandchildren Ashley, Patrick Jr, KP and Kenetria ‘Nikipooh’; six great-grandchildren Kamariah, Kyleigh, Kayce, Destiny, Dristen and Dalia; long-time best friends Mildred Ann Bailey and Jacquelyn Robinson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and dear friends.
It is the desire of the Carter/Patterson family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
