Mrs. Eliza Bedell Obituary

Mrs. Eliza Ann Bedell, age 80, was born April 15, 1944 to the late Clara Mae Perry and Samuel Perry.  Eliza, also known as “Lady” was the third oldest out of eight children.  Early in life, Eliza accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior.  On Friday December 27, 2024, Eliza made her final exit surrounded by family and friends as she answered the Master’s call.

Eliza was born and raised in Columbus, Georgia, where she attended Carver public school. Her senior class was the first graduating class of Carver High School in 1963.  Eliza then continued her education in early childhood where she worked in Columbus, GA school system for a number of years.  Eliza and her late husband Howard Bedell relocated to Boston, MA, where she continued working in early childhood education.  In 1995, Eliza and her late husband moved to Augusta, GA, where they lived in retirement and enjoyed life.  In their leisure time, they enjoyed traveling, fishing, and taking long drives.

Eliza “Lady” loved her family and friends dearly.  She told you just like it was, and that is why she was loved so dearly.  Eliza was and will always be remembered as Lady London.  She was known as aunt Liza or aunt Lady by her nieces and nephews.  After meeting Eliza, you never left as a stranger, when you left her home you could always count on leaving with a happy sack as she always called it; whether it was food or some kind of trinket, you never left empty handed.

Although our hearts are heavy by the passing of our dear loved one, she was more than just a wonderful mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend.  Her family loved her unconditionally and she loved them unconditionally.  Let’s not forget about her love for her children that was unmatched and her children loved her with the same unwavering devotion.  She leaves with her children a legacy of love, strength, and cherished memories.  Her love for her sisters was unshakable and their bond was unlike any other. They spoke daily, sharing laughter, support, and countless memories.

Eliza was an amazing woman. She touched many lives and was deeply loved by many.  Her passing will not only leave a void in our lives, but in the hearts of everyone that knew her.  Our family will always hold tight to the precious memories of her and they will linger on within our hearts.  We will miss her big heart and smile.

She was preceded in death on March 14, 2021, by her husband of 30 years, Howard Bedell, a daughter Tanette London, a sister, Betty Hardison and four brothers Samuel Perry, James Perry, Woodrow Hardison and Thomas Smith Jr.

Her legacy lives on through her loving children: Danna (Mark) Mobley of Suffolk, VA, Hilliard R. London Jr. of Atlanta, GA, and adopted daughter Carrie Culver of Atlanta, GA.  She also leaves behind eleven grandchildren: Timothy Mobley, Jamalia (Kevin) Thomas, Damozsheio Leach, Cierra Mobley, Jade Mobley (all of Suffolk, VA), Santaisà Daniel (Jacksonville, FL), David Wolf (Atlanta, GA), Cierra Chapman (Augusta, GA), and Malarie (Ryan) Holt, Christian London, and Brandan London (all of Troy, AL). Additionally, Eliza is survived by several great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, her sisters Hattie (Wes) Maiden of Springfield, VA, and Patricia Lamb of Columbus, GA, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends, and her special companion “Paco” (dog).

Lady’s farewell “Love you but no damn money”

DO NOT STAND AT MY GRAVE AND WEEP

MARY Elizabeth Frye, Author

Do not stand at my grave and weep,

I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow,

I am the softly falling snow.

I am the gentle showers of rain,

I am the fields of ripening grain.

I am in the morning hush,

I am in the graceful rush

Of beautiful birds in circling flight,

I am the starshine of the night.

I am in the flowers that bloom,

I am in a quiet room.

I am in the birds that sing,

I am in each lovely thing.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,

I am not there.  I did not die.

We want to give a special thanks to Trinity Hospice care, especially Chaplin Jessica, CNA Valencia, and nurse Ginny and to Sandra Scott for taking such good care of our little Lady and loving her dearly.

It is the desire of the Bedell  family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

The family of Mrs. Eliza Bedell  has entrusted her final care to C. C. Carter Funeral Home.
