Mrs. Edith Mae Barlow passed away peacefully on Sunday September, 10th in Hampton, VA surrounded by loving family and friends. She was born May 13,1935 in Charles CIty, VA to the late Buella Estella Lawrence and Ernest Lawrence.
Edith was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Nana!! She had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh. Most of all she loved nothing more than her plain Lays potato chips and a good Pepsi. Her main hobby was shopping and decorating her home. She also loved her family gatherings and cookouts while vibing to Al Green and Marvin Gaye.
Her life was a living example of Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32- "And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ."
Edith is preceded in death by her parents Ernest & Buella Lawrence, her longtime friend, husband and love James Barlow, son James Barlow Jr. (Snoop), Daughters Eureka Barlow, and Cynthia Barlow, grandson Antonio Barlow, and great grandson Kyrie Barlow. Her siblings Mary Lucy Jones, Geraldine Ellan Austin, Edward Lawrence, Howard Lawrence, Roscoe Lawrence, and Elwood Lawrence.
She leaves to cherish in her memory her two sisters Liallian Estelle Black and Cynthia Bernistine Gresham, one brother Larry Lawrence, three daughters Janice Barlow, Gwen Barlow, Phyllis Williams( Thaddeus Williams) one son William Barlow. There are a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and special friends as well.
The Barlow family request that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers at this time.
The family of Mrs. Edith Lawrence Barlow has entrusted her final care to the staff of C. C. Carter Funetal Home, Inc.
