Mrs. Edith Jones Obituary

Mrs. Edith Shirley Ennels was born in Cambridge MD, on January 10, 1936 to her parents Winfield Ennels and Audrey Cannon. She was raised on a farm with her loving paternal grandparents, John W. and Ruth Fletcher Ennels, after Winfield's early passing. She attended school in Dorchester County, MD then spent her life as the dedicated US Air Force wife of Elmer T. Jones Jr. Their loving union took them on adventures living abroad for 10 years in both France and Taiwan, as well as many other cities and bases across the U.S. where they made lasting friendships.

She worked for a pharmacy, a school district, and several other places that caught her interest before settling in Virginia from Bangor, ME. She later earned a nursing certificate which gave her the joy of caring for others who also became her friends.

Always known as Shirley, the most immaculate housekeeper on the East Coast, a most excellent home cook, and someone you could rely on. A social butterfly who loved to entertain family and friends, play cards, and enjoy her blessed life as Nana and Grandma. Church and Bible study with loyal friends Tolsan and Pecola Collins was important to her for many years, and she loved sharing their lessons with others as she also did with Chaplain Ruth, where she was cared for these last years. She was feisty, opinionated, very giving, and never met a stranger.  She is deeply loved and now dearly missed. The family sends our gratitude for all the love, friendship, and treasured memories you also shared with her.

Shirley was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, her parents, grandparents, siblings Emily Ennels Yow, Barbara Worrell (Raymond), Betty Streat Anderson, and Joseph Streat (Ernestine); special cousins Nancy and Ben Chester; in-laws Bailey Hull (Clara), Cleion Jones (Rhoda), Ardessa Pinder (Francis), Betty Jones Cooper, Awdry Jones (Hattie), Sylvian Jones (Mary), Estella Sylvia Ennals Jones, granddaughter Edith Joy Jones, and a host of beloved nephews.

Shirley leaves to mourn and cherish her memory; loving children Michael Jones (Cynthia) and Mar'Leta Jones; granddaughters Afrikka L. Ennis (LaVaniel), Sheri L. Jones Burt-Harris (Jaime), and Marrissa Jones-Dawson; great-grandchildren Amarah, Camden, and Arryn Ennis; sisters Audrey Streat (Terry Ford), Jean Streat; in-laws Irene Webb (Donnie), William Jones Sr. (Estella), Paul Jones, Ella Conaway (James Sr.), special cousins Benita Flye (Barry), Fletcher cousins Dian Luna, Danielle, Yasmin, little Cinco, and a long list of very loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

It is the desire of the Jones family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
