Mrs. Easter Melton Obituary

Mrs. Easter M. Melton, a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, fell asleep in death on July 27, 2025, at the age of 94.

Born in Surry County, Virginia, to Mariah Osborne, Easter received her early education in Surry County and later in Newport News. In the summer of 1980, she made a life-changing commitment to serve Jehovah and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. For 45 years, she faithfully served in the ministry, finding joy in praising Jehovah and cherishing the fellowship of her spiritual brothers and sisters.

Easter will be remembered for her elegance, creativity, and unwavering love for her family and friends. Her sense of style, eye for decorating, and passion for gardening were just a few of the ways she brought beauty and warmth to the world around her.

She was a nurturing and deeply loved woman who held many roles: mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, sister, neighbor, and spiritual sister. Her presence, comforting smile, and generous spirit will be missed more than words can express.

Easter was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Nathan Melton; her sons Samuel L. Melton, David L. Melton, and Joseph Melton; her mother Mariah Lane; her brothers John Osborne and Richard Osborne; and her sister Bertha Richardson.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her five daughters: Celestine Jarvis (Richard) of Hampton, Margie Lyons (Raymond) of Newport News,  Teresa Cofer (Lionell) of Hampton, Lois Stephenson of Newport News and Deborah Grimes (Kenneth) of Hampton

She is also survived by her sister Wilnette Williamson of Reidsville, North Carolina; Ocshell Lane (Barbara) of Hampton; James Lane (Sondra) of Baltimore, Maryland; Cynthia Osborne her sister-in-law of Smithfield Virginia

Easter’s legacy continues through her 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends—each of whom she loved deeply and unconditionally.

It is the desire of the Melton family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
