Mrs. Dorothy L. Mallett entered eternal rest on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at 07:29 in Hampton, VA. She was born on January 06, 1945, to the late Essie and Francis Harris in Greenwood, MS where she attended school. Dorothy was the 2nd oldest born to this union. After losing her parents at a very young age, she would become the mother figure to her younger siblings until she married Wallace E. Mallett of the U.S. Army on July 17, 1963.
After his second tour ended, they relocated to East St. Louis, IL. To this union one child was born. She was an attentive and devoted wife for almost 50 years.
Dorothy worked briefly in special education and later switched career fields to medical as a CNA until retirement in 2007 to care for her husband until his departure on May 06, 2013.
In October of 2014, Dorothy relocated to Hampton, VA to be with her daughter and family where she began a new life. Dorothy gained not only a host of friends who became like family but a lifeline of support. She became an active member of Wesley Grove United Church of Christ under the leadership of Senior Pastor Antonio Newsome. She was a regular member until her health started to decline.
She enjoyed cooking for any and everyone. One of her most requested items was the dessert dish “Butter Roll”. Her favorite past time was shopping, traveling and spending time with family. However, her greatest accomplishment in life was gaining the title of Granny and showering her grandchildren with extra love. She particularly enjoyed being chauffeured by her grandson, her protector.
She Is survived by her daughter, Tonya Pressey (Marcus); two grandchildren: and Ashli “Nae-Nae” Pressey and Ashton “Lil’ Man” Pressey; two brothers Willie Harris (Alma), Curley Harris (Opelina); sister-n-law Mary Ann Bryan-Cook of Martinez, CA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and an abundance of friends.
It is the desire of the Mallett/Pressey families that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
The family of Mrs. Dorothy Mallett has entrusted her final care to C. C. Carter Funeral Home.
