Mrs. Doris Holloway Obituary

Don’t think of her as gone away, her journey’s just begun. Life holds so many facets, this earth is only one.” – Author Unknown

Mrs. Doris Elaine Holloway, 63, of Hampton, VA, transitioned Friday December 3, 2021 at Sentara CarePlex surrounded by family and friends.

Mrs. Holloway was born March 4, 1958 in Hampton, VA to the late Bertha Taliaferro.

A lifelong resident of Hampton, she was educated in the Hampton Public School System and graduated from Hampton High School in 1976.

Doris was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Although she was known as quiet soul, her kindhearted and selfless nature spoke volumes and this is evident in the care and compassion she exhibited towards others.

Doris recently retired after working over 35 years with the City of Hampton Police Department. Aside from her employment, she enjoyed volunteering her time with Y.H. Thomas Youth Athletic Association as a Team Mom and member of the Executive Board. Aside from working and volunteering, she also took pleasure in working in her flower garden, fishing, attending Phoebus football games with her husband and maybe an occasional Bingo game or two; but caring for her family and ensuring their well-being is what was most important.

Mrs. Holloway was preceded in death by her mother, Bertha Taliaferro; son, Andre Holloway; sister-in-law, Doreatha Golden; grandson, Jonathan ‘Jay-Jay’ Holloway; mother-in-law Ruth Woodley; and other family members. Left to cherish her memories are her husband, John Holloway Sr.; daughters, Tanisha Taliaferro, Johniqua Holloway; Melinda Holloway (Jules), Anntoine Whitaker Greene (Xavier), son, John Holloway Jr.; grandchildren Khali Ashurst, Raymond Holloway (Shukura), Tameka Holloway, LeVar Whitaker (Je-Nee), Jimarr Whitaker (Brenda), Glenn Whitaker (Darcel) , Jaylen Holloway, sister-in-laws Patricia Gibson (William) and Sharon Brooks (Frederick), Jennifer Harris and a host of other relatives and friends who love her dearly.

The family would like to thank Dr. Edu Mohammed, Dr. David Chang, and Dr. Lawrence Hyman, the staff at Sentara CarePlex, Virginia Oncology and TPMG for everything done to comfort Mrs. Holloway.
