Mrs. Delores Lee Blow Lucas

Mrs. Delores (Lois) went to her rest with God on August 10, 2023 after a short illness. She was 69 years old and a resident of Gladstone Virginia. Lois was born in Newport News, Virginia and lived in the old Newsome Park part of Newport News. In 1955, her dad built a family home and moved to Jefferson Park. Lois’ father, Eddie Frank Blow, Sr and mother, Flora Lee Harris Blow both passed away when she was about 18 years old.
 

This left Lois orphaned at a young age, but with a very strong work ethic and determination to succeed. Lois is a testament to the strength of the human spirit.

Lois attended Newsome Park Elementary school and graduated from G. W. Carver high school in 1971 (the last high school class). She earned a Bachelors degree in nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Masters degree from the University of Phoenix.

Lois retired in 2017 from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, McGuire Medical Center, in Richmond VA as a Home Telehealth Registered Nurse. But Lois didn’t stop helping people. She offered advice on healthy eating habits to those who would listen and researched supplements for others. She helped people to understand their medical problems and offered to connect-the-dots for those who did not fully understand the various doctors they saw or prescriptions they were taking.

In 2000, she married her best friend and the love of her life, Donald Lucas who passed away in 2019. Lois and Donald shared a wonderful marriage along with a love of animals and the care of their beautiful acreages of property. They raised chickens, ducks, had fruit trees and vegetables. They called their property “God’s Country” for they said they could hear the butterflies flap their wings.

It is the desire of the Blow/Lucas  family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

The family of Mrs. Delores Lee Blow Lucas has entrusted her final care to C. C. Carter Funeral Home, Inc.
