Mrs. Delores Lewis

In Loving Memory Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, sister, and friend departed this earth on May 3, 2025, to her heavenly home.

Her memory will be cherished by her exceptionally devoted husband of 51 years,Paul Lewis Jr., and her children: Evette Lucas- Howard of Newport News, VA; Steven Lucas (Mary) of Katy, TX; Shelton Lucas of Smithfield, VA; Karen Baker (Michael) of Carrollton, VA; and Chandra Jones (Kennell) of Abingdon, MD. She was a proud grandmother with 11 grandchildren and 7 great - grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving sister, Katie Jackson of Newport News, VA, and her brother, Norman Ward (Frances) of Moyock, NC. In addition, she embraced her extendedchildren: David Minns (Janelle) of Smithfield, VA; Reginal Hooker of Hampton, VA; and Darren Jordan of Chandler, AZ.Preceded in death by her parents Raymond Ward, Sr. and Katie Ward, brother, Raymond Ward, Jr., daughter in-love, Danette Lucas, and best friend, Noami Ponzo.

She retired from the former Hampton General Hospital (now SentaraCarePlex) as a Registered Nurse. Her career reflected her deep compassion, but her greatest joy came from loving and doting on her family.

Her grandchildren and great- grandchildren were the light of her life. She was truly the nucleus and driving force behind our family. Affectionately known as “Sweet D,” she was truly the heart and soul of our family.

Her nurturing spirit and open arms meant no one would ever be turned away—there was always room for one more at her table. She found joy in traveling, caring for her community, and curling up with a good novel.

As the consummate host, she loved to bring people together, sharing meals and making memories. She was a faithful member of Triumph Christian Center in Newport News, VA. We will forever cherish the love, warmth, and wisdom she shared with us all. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched.

It is the desire of the Lewis family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Interment for Mrs. Delores Lewis will be Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Road, Suffolk, VA.
