Mrs. Deborah L. Holmes

Deborah Lorraine Holmes was born on January 27, 1955 to Joe and Faye Slidge in Sumter, SC. She departed this life on April 9th at the York Convalescence Center in Yorktown, Virginia.

Joe Slidge had an illustrious career in the Air force taking him and his family around the world affording Deborah the opportunity to begin her elementary schooling along with her sisters in Ankara, Turkey.  Upon returning to the United States she lived in Florida, Alabama and finally Hampton, VA where Joe took his final military post. Deborah attended Thorpe Jr. High and graduated from Hampton High School.

Upon graduating Deb (as we fondly called her) took advantage of several different career opportunities before landing on a 20+ year career in education, as a paraprofessional with the York County school system.  She was recognized by the County for her creative ideas and commitment to serving young people with unique abilities.

Deb had two beautiful daughters, Cherria and Katrina Holmes who along with her seven grandchildren were the love of her life. What we loved most about Deb was her faith, quiet power and great baking and cooking skills.

Deb was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Faye Slidge, and her daughter Cherria Holmes. Deb leaves her daughter Katrina Holmes(Donnell) and sisters Shelley Slidge(Robert), Valerie Slidge, Annette Slidge(Norm) and Deneane Bell to lovingly keep her memories. Her seven grandchildren; Karon, Deonte, Ahmon, Khalil, Jaylon, Ayana and Anthony, as well as, a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, along with friends that will miss her dearly.Mrs. 

Viewing for Mrs. Holmes will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 24, 2021 at C.C. Carter Funeral Home, Inc.

Services for Mrs. Holmes will take place at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 24, 2021 at C.C. Carter Funeral Home, Inc.
