Mrs.Carlethia Scott-Kelly, born Carlethia Marylee Scott on December 15, 1943, in Newport News, VA, entered Heaven's gates on August 23, 2025, at the age of 81 in Hampton, VA. She is the daughter of the late Carl A. Scott Sr. and Lelia P. Royal. Carlethia was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, her first husband, John E. Scott Sr., daughters Delethia Wharton, Virginia Bunting, and stepson Keith Kelly.
Carlethia attended George Washington Carver High School. She had a keen eye for decorating and became an independent decorator with Home Interiors, Inc. for over 20 years. She loved to bake, cook, and host spectacular family gatherings. She kept an immaculate home that became a soft resting place to all who entered. Because of her loving, caring spirit she later became a caregiver with Kelly Services and cared for many in her community until her health declined.
Carlethia later met and married Cecil Kelly with whom she enjoyed a loving union for over 35 years. They attended Providence Baptist Church and served in several ministries while there. They later became parishioners of Divine Guidance before being led to New Hope Baptist Church in Hampton where she served until her health prevented her from attending. She had a lovely soprano voice and knew practically every hymn imaginable. Carlethia was a true artist.
Carlethia leaves to cherish her memories her loving, devoted husband Cecil. Her daughter Naomi Scott, son, John Scott, Jr., stepson Alonzo Kelly (Evelyn), and stepdaughter Amanda Brothers (Steven). She has nine grandchildren, LaTanya Banks (Jeffrey), Martin Savage, Jalisa Graham (Travaris), Jessica Fudge, Joel Fudge, Karver Bunting, Julia Fudge, Sean Scott, and Delena Scott; seven great-grandchildren, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Mary Scott, Geraline Scott, Mary Spraggins, Cheyenne Kelly; brothers-in-law Ernest Kelly, Ralph Kelly; as well as her childhood and lifelong friend, Mrs. Nancy Nicholson of Hampton, VA.
Our mom, grandmother, wife, and friend will be missed but one bright morning we will see her again soon.
It is the desire of the Kelly family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
