Mrs. Barbara Smith

Mrs. Barbara Jean Smith answered the Master’s call on December 23, 2021 when she vacated her earthly vessel in exchange for a glorified body.  She was born on September 4, 1944 in Hampton, Virginia. She was predeceased by her husband, the love of her life, James Alphonso Smith, Sr., her parents Charles Jones, Sr. and Thelma L. Davenport, three brothers, Robert Jones, Charles Jones, Jr. and George Jones. She was also predeceased by a daughter, Gail Gorham and a son, James I. Smith.

Jean, as she was affectionately known, was a family woman and her family was her first priority. She had a beautiful singing voice and enjoyed singing along with the oldies while drinking a Pepsi.  She sang for her daughter Deborah and son Jamie a couple of days before she went home to be with the Lord. She fought a good fight, she finished her course, she kept the faith.

Jean is survived by four children, Deborah Dixon (Ronald), James A. Smith, Jr. (Andrea Hart), Timothy Smith (Carly), and Kevin Smith, 14 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, and other family members and friends. A public viewing will be held two hours prior to the service (10am-Noon). 

A private homegoing service for the family will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at C.C. Carter Funeral Home at noon.

It is the desire of the Smith family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
