On Thursday, February 6, 2025, Barbara Ann Davis—our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend—was called home to the Kingdom of Heaven.
Born on September 21, 1942, in Northumberland County, Barbara was the cherished daughter of David and Edith Dameron, who, along with her son “Marty” Price, welcomed her into eternity. She was the baby girl of the family, growing up alongside her three older brothers.
Barbara’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was baptized and remained a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Heathsville, VA, where she found joy in serving the Lord and uplifting those around her.
She graduated from Central High School in Heathsville, VA, and continued her education at Virginia State University before dedicating her career to Student Health Services at Hampton Institute. With her radiant smile and warm spirit, Barbara had a gift for making everyone feel seen and cared for whether they were students, faculty, or members of the community.
In September 1979, Barbara married the love of her life,Drifton Davis. Their 35 years together were filled with love, laughter, and adventure—whether traveling, vacationing, or simply enjoying the quiet comforts of home. Barbara had a way of making her home feel warm and welcoming, a sanctuary where family and friends always felt embraced. She was just as outgoing as she was introspective, finding joy in good company and the quiet solace and coziness of a great book.
Her legacy of love lives on through her daughter, Tonya Wyche (Darrell), and her five grandchildren: Martel, Jamar (Danyelle), Terri, Olivia, and James Jr. She was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Zara and Jonah, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who carry her memory in their hearts.
A special acknowledgment goes to two remarkable souls who played a profound role in Barbara’s life: Sylvester “Slim” Jones, a devoted friend who stood by her side with unwavering care, and Paulina Gayle, an angel on Earth who provided the compassionate care Barbara needed in her final days. Their love and kindness meant the world to her, and for that, we are eternally grateful.
Barbara’s life was a testament to love, faith, and the power of kindness. She made the world a better place simply by being in it, and though she has left this earthly home, her warmth and wisdom remain with us always.
It is the desire of the Davis- Wyche families that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers
