Mrs. Alice Howard Obituary

Mrs. Alice Badgett Howard a Deacon and member of New Grafton Baptist Church, Newport News, VA.  transitioned on Friday, January 24, 2020 at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, VA.

She was born to the late William Basley Badgett,  and Harriet Graves Badgett on November 13, 1939, in Ruffin, NC. She is preceded in death by her late husband, Phillip Daniel Howard, two brothers, Theodis Badgett, Henry E. Badgett (Sadie) “Doll.”

Alice graduated from Caswell County Training School in North Carolina. On August 1, 1959, she married the love of her life, Phillip Daniel Howard. Three children were born from this beautiful union.

In the early 60’s, the family moved from Caswell County, North Carolina to Newport News, Virginia seeking growth and opportunity. Placing her mark on the world she began her career as a food service worker at Whittaker Memorial Hospital and retired as canteen supervisor at Newport News Shipyard Drydock and Company. After retirement she worked at Sears and Roebuck and Company until 2009.

After the passing of her husband, Alice became the Matriarch of her family. Despite life’s fickle disparities, her love was never wavering; no task was too small for her willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone. Determined to leave a legacy of faithful believers she ensured that her grandchildren would not miss out on any opportunity Sunday school and Bible Study via carpool. A prayer warrior and devoted church member.  Alice has been a member of New Grafton Baptist Church for over 50 years.  She served as a Deacon on the Deacon board, President of the Pastor’s Aide Committee, Senior Choir and Virtuous Women’s Committee, Hospitality committee, Golden Ages, Board of Christian Education and many others.

Cherishing her memory, Alice leaves behind  one son, Phillip B. Howard (Jennifer) of Newport News, VA, two daughters, Tammy Jones Howard (Charles) of Newport News, VA, Patricia Howard of Hampton, VA, one brother, William Badgett, Sr. (Cleo) of Hampton, VA, two granddaughters, Latisha S. Lattimore (Edward IV) “Mickey” of Hampton, VA, Tammy R Jones-Wilson (Kevin) of Newport News, VA, and one grandson, Phillip B. Howard, Jr., of  Newport News, VA,  one great granddaughter, Lyric, five great grandsons, Edward V, Tasean, Justin, Karter, Kayden, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving family and friends.

 

Viewing for Mrs. Alice Badgett Howard will be held from noon until 5:00p.m.  Friday, Janaury 31, 2020 at C.C.Carter Funeral Home, Inc. 

 

Services for Mrs. Alice Badgett Howard will be held noon Saturday, February 1, 2020 at New Grafton Baptist Church 4401 Chestnut  Ave. Newport News, VA. by Dr. Micheal Sumler.

 

Interment will be held 11:00a.m. Monday, Febuary 3, 2020 at Hampnton National Cemetery University Section.
