A calming voice and bright smile were suddenly silenced. On Tuesday, November 4, 2025, Zachary answered his call and slipped peacefully into eternity surrounded by family.
Zachary Orrie Carter, a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and cherished friend was born on November 17, 1958. He was a caring man, a true giver, had a calming spirit, showed love to everyone, and was a constant fighter with the health complications he battled over the years. While in his presence, he showed his kindness with a smile and always had a joke to make everyone else feel better.
Zack graduated from Warwick High School in Newport News, VA June 1976. After graduating he decided to enlist in the United States Army and served for three years as an E-5 (Sargeant). There is no place like home, so after the Army he returned to his roots in Newport News, VA. He then began to work for Lynne North American and Kloke Moving and Storage company in Newport News, VA until he was forced to stop.
He was a member of St. Johns Church of God in Christ in Newport News in his earlier years and accepted Christ as a young man. He recently rededicated his life to Christ with a special prayer with his adopted sister, Simone.
Zachary’s memory will be cherished by his beloved daughters, Lakesha Britt (Lawrence), Latasha Riddick (Jamar) of Newport News; devoted son, Christian Nedd of Hampton, VA; brothers, Gerod E. Carter, Reginald O. Carter, Wendell B. Carter of Newport News, VA, sisters, Barbara Carter of Staunton, VA; Nadine P. Jackson (Howard) of Newport News, VA and Dr. Tanya Stubbs White, of Chesapeake, VA; his lifetime love and girlfriend, Joyce Nedd of Hampton, VA, his adopted siblings, Kevin Stubbs, Sr. (Johnna), Keith Stubbs, and Petra Simone Campbell (Michael), and Sean Stubbs, Sr. (Pamela). Zack’s memory will also live on and be forever treasured by his seven grandchildren; Destiny, Kasim, Jr., AJ, Laila, LaDawn, Kameren, and Bella; and one great-grand child, Zariyah; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and special friends.
Zachary is predeceased in death by his parents, Eugene E. Carter, and Loretta Octavia Stubbs; brother, Eric Quinton Stubbs, and his adopted parents, Peter and Norma Stubbs.
It is the desire of the Carter family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
