Mr. Wilbert Hawkins Obituary

Wilbert Hawkins was born on September 19, 1937, in Louisburg, North Carolina, to the late Hubert and Patti Pearl Hawkins. He was educated in the Newport News Public School system and graduated from George Washington Carver High School in 1960.

In November 1961, Wilbert proudly enlisted in the United States Army. He completed his basic training at Fort Gordon, Georgia, and served two honorable years in Germany before being discharged at Fort Dix, New Jersey, in 1964.

On September 19, 1971, Wilbert was united in marriage to Eva Deloris Clark. He continued to make his home in New Jersey for many years before returning to Virginia in 2003.

Known for his gentle spirit, sense of humor, and quiet strength, Wilbert lived a life marked by kindness and resilience. As the youngest and last surviving child of his parents, he now closes a cherished chapter in the Hawkins family’s history. Though he had no children of his own, his love extended deeply to a host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, a devoted friend, Betty Kennedy, and many others whose lives he touched.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Patti Pearl Hawkins; his sisters, Arginetta Ruffin, Lillie M. Stallings, Lucille Hall, Lettie Hawkins, and Betty Ferguson; and his brothers, Hubert E. Hawkins Jr., James E. Hawkins, Fuller Hawkins, and Willie Hawkins.

Wilbert’s memory will live on through those who loved him, as the family finds peace in knowing he has joined his loved ones in eternal rest.

It is the desire of the Hawkins family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

The family of Mr. Wilbert Hawkins has entrusted his final care to C. C. Carter Funeral Home.
