Mr. Walter McNeill Obituary

Mr. Walter Mason McNeill

Our Brother, Uncle, Friend, answered the eternal call on Thursday, July 23, 2020. Walter was born January 30, 1954 to the late Lacy and Sadie J McNeill. Walter also proceeded in death by two nephews Curtis and Christopher Parrish.

Walter was educated by Hampton Public Schools and was a 1972 graduate of Bethel High School. Walter cherished his beloved mother and all four legged creatures, at various times he always had a pet either a dog, fish, bird almost any animal would do.  Walter loved nature and decorating with bird feeders, wind chimes or anything he thought would beautify a yard. He enjoyed crabbing, watching a good movie and sports. He loved growing plants and his latest unfinished project building a chicken coop.  Walter was not a scientist but you sure would have thought he was a scientist.  He could come up with a concoction for almost anything, from having the greenest grass in the winter, to creating a satellite antenna made from an old TV antenna, cable cord and duck-tape which provided more channels than the networks.

Walter worked for many years at Big Star Grocery Store and then later went on to pursue his passion of taking care of animals.  Walter started out at Hampton Animal Hospital and after several years of service, he left and began working at Armistead Animal hospital.  Walter was often asked ‘’Are you going to retire now that you can?” and he would say “For what I just love this. Maybe when I die!”. Well Brother once again you were right.

Walter was very honest, kind, dependable and firm. He said what meant and meant what he said no matter who it was being said too. Walter continued to maintain lifelong friendships and he was never too busy to call or visit with the elderly.

Walter and his sisters could have been a sitcom, as he had a different relationship with each of them. Although he had no children, his three younger sisters were his children. Just as any father he protected, cared, provided and discipline them. Pacita, he coddled and Nevada, he lectured and Cocoa, he frequently introduced he “Mr. Black”, with Brenda he confided and Carolyn he reconciled.

Walter leaves to cherish his memories five sisters Carolyn Stevens, Brenda McNeill-Parrish both of Baltimore, MD., Pacita McNeill-Shareef, Nevada McNeill and Dakota McNeill all of Hampton, VA, eight nieces and nephews and a host of great-nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
