Mr. Thomas Wayne Rainey, 66, of Yorktown, Virginia, entered eternal rest on February 24, 2026. Born on October 27, 1959, Thomas was a native of Yorktown and a graduate of York High School. He was a familiar face to many and a friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Thomas was a graduate of York High School and began his dedicated career with the City of Newport News Department of Engineering in 1985. Through 33 years of faithful service, he earned the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends before retiring in 2019. His strong work ethic and quiet pride in his contributions to the city reflected the dependable and committed man he was.
Known for his vibrant personality, Thomas was truly the life of every gathering. He had a natural gift for making people laugh, often with his quick wit, playful jokes, unforgettable dance moves, and loyal fan of the Washington Redskins (Commanders). Whether he was doing the Robot, the Time, or simply stepping onto the floor with his own style, he brought joy and energy wherever he went. His laughter was contagious, his smile warm, and his presence one that lifted the spirits of everyone around him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Rainey, and his sisters, Sheryl Artist and Pam Earley.
Thomas leaves to cherish his memory his loving mother, Nettie Rainey; his devoted spouse of 25 years, Inda Reynolds; his daughter, Brittany Rainey (Anwar); his granddaughter, Havyn McKinley; and his grandsons, Jameis and Joseph Simpson, who brought immense joy to his heart. He is also survived by his step daughters Felicia Simpson (Tony); Ty Reynolds (Dave); his sisters, Reber McMorris (Montie); Valerie Rainey; Karen Hopson and Lori Hopson; his brother, Chico; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and his bestfriends Mel and Michael who loved him dearly and will miss him always.
Above all, Thomas will be remembered for his loving heart, his sense of humor, and his ability to turn ordinary days into celebrations. He never met a stranger and made everyone feel like family. His legacy is one of joy, kindness, and the countless smiles he created.
His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
