Mr. Stephen Lowther

Stephen Lowther “Steve”,  age 65, transitioned from this earthly life on  November 25, 2019 at his home in Hampton, Virginia.  He began his life on June 22, 1954 born to the late George E. and  Rosa B. Lowther. Stephen was educated in Newport News, VA and graduated from Homer L. Ferguson High School.

Steve, a veteran of the Army, was an infantry squad leader with the 17th Infantry, South Korea. He earned several medals, badges, and ribbons, including Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal 2nd AWD, Good Conduct Medal 6th AWD, National Defense Service Medal w/ Bronze Star, and many more! He also received the 8th U.S. Army Distinguished Leader Award. Steve loved  his family and he gave plenty of hugs. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart. He also loved telling stories about being a Drill Sergeant and his time with the 82nd Airborne to his family and friends, music, playing chess and hosting cookouts. His favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys J

He was preceded in death by one sister,  Vanessa Mattocks, He is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Sharon, one son,  Stephen S. Lowther,  two daughters, Nicole Lowther and Shanice Lowther; 11 siblings; Betty Highsmith (Earl) of Smithfield, VA., Barbara Adams of Newport News, VA., George Lowther, Jr. of Newport News, VA., Rosa Diana Shelton of Newport News, VA., Elnora Butler of Newport News, VA., Alexander Lowther of Newport News, VA., Janet Brown (Ozie) of Newport News, VA., Vera Wright of Newport News, VA., Christopher Lowther of Newport News., Jerry Lowther of Newport News, VA., and Karen Lowther of Newport News, VA.; Three grandchildren, Ciara Mitchell, Triston Alford, and Zion Harden., one aunt, Mary Scruggs (Tom) of Georgia., a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. 

A viewing for Mr. Stephen Lowther will be held from noon until 5:00 p.m. Friday, December 6, 2019 at C.C. Carter Funeral Home, Inc.

Services will be held noon Saturday, December 7, 2019 at New Grafton Baptist Church, 4401 Chestnut Ave, Newport News, Virginia by Rev. Dr. Michael L. Sumler.

Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens.
