Mr. Sherman DeWitt Crawley returned to his Heavenly Father on May 24, 2022. He was born in Newport News to the late Rev. George Crawley and Maggie Constellation Harris. He grew up in (Warwick County) Newport News with his siblings, Celestine Crawley Bryant and the late Herman Crawley.
After attending Carver High School, Sherman attended apprentice school to learn masonry. He soon became a contractor and built his first rental home with a bank loan at 18. Incredibly, he was able to pay it off in less than five years. Sherman went on to start a myriad of business ventures including Central Ambulance Co., Crawley Vault Co., Crawley Masonry Corp., S. Crawley Corp, and C & C Real Estate Property Management, LLC.
He is survived by his sister, daughter, Sheryl Crawley, two grandchildren, Skyler and Kendyl Crawley Crawford, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Sherman will be deeply missed, and his memory will last in our hearts forever.
It is the desire of the Crawley family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
The family of Mr. Sherman D. Crawley has entrusted his final care to C.C. Carter Funeral Home, Inc.
