Roy Linwood Graves, age 74 of Newport News, Virginia, passed away on June 7th, 2025. He was born on May 4th, 1951, in ReIdsville, North Carolina, and lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a deep passion for the things that brought him joy.
A proud graduate of Carver High School in Newport News, VA, Class of 1969, Roy was an avid sports fan with an unwavering love for football. He was a devoted supporter of the Chicago Bears, cheering them on with excitement and pride, and he loved playing his lottery numbers.
Driven by ambition and dedication, Roy’s pursued excellence in everything he did. He never believed in giving up. If he failed, he would try again—relentlessly—until the mission was complete. A fighter, protector, leader, and survivor, Roy carried himself with the strength and confidence of a true king,
Roy’s legacy is one of resilience, love, and unwavering devotion. Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit lives on in the lives he touched, the lessons he imparted, and the love he gave so freely. He will always be remembered as a man of greatness—a warrior, a leader, and above all, a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend.
Roy was preceded in death by his father, Troy Lindwood Graves, his mother Alice Lenora Graves, his daughter Andrea “Cookie” Pegram Chavers, his sister Yvonne Fullwood and his twin brother Troy Henry Graves.
He is survived by his daughter Tyronda Womack, sons Roy Lindwood Graves Jr. and Rodney Ruffin (Elica), his siblings Clemintine Manley, Pamela Spain (Andre) and Anthony McDaniel (Evelyn), his grandchildren Savontae Bland Graves, Nihzuriah Graves, Jequan Womack, Daelynn Ruffin, Nyla Ruffin, Ashley Ruffin, Alyssa Ruffin, Kinsley Ruffin along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins dear friends who will cherish his memory forever.
