Mr. Rodney Rollins Obituary

Rodney M. Rollins passed away on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at Autumn Care of Suffolk. He was born on October 17, 1954, in Warwick County, VA to the late John and Rachel Rollins.

Rodney, better known to the family as “Rodnuke” or “Nuke”, was a loving, mild-mannered, and gentle person with a big heart. In his younger days he was a serious student of martial arts but in his maturer years became an avid student of “intellectual” poetry and spoken word. He published a book of his poetry and had an opportunity to showcase his spoken word creativity with a popular spoken word poetry group.

His love for family was highlighted throughout his life as well as his inclination to intervene in the lives of those who were experiencing difficult times through being an agent of hope and provision. He developed a love for dogs at an early age and earned several certificates in dog training. His dogs (there were many) were like his children, and among his favorites were Rugrat, Zeus, and Sampson.

There are so many humorous memories between the siblings about him, mainly because he was the daring one, that it would take a good while to tell them all. He will be sorely missed.

He leaves wonderful memories to be cherished by his brothers Michael Rollins (April) and Antonio Rollins (Diane), sisters Shelia Rollins Boone and Sharen Rollins Stevens, an aunt Theodora Rollins Brinkley, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Graveside services with military honors will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at  Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia.

It is the desire of the Rollins family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
