Mr. Robert Watford

Robert Watford, loving family man and father passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 18, 2021, at the age of 86, at his home in Hampton, VA.  His final days were spent surrounded by the family and friends he loved so much. 

Robert was born in 1934 in Bertie County, North Carolina to William and Eleanora Watford.  He moved to the Hampton Roads area in 1956.  Here he joined in marriage to his beloved wife Martha who preceded him in death. He was a long time resident of Hampton, VA. 

Robert worked for the Rug Shop for many years.   He later went on to own his own business Watford Carpet Installation for over 30 years prior to retirement.  He enjoyed watching old westerns, wrestling, and cheering for his favorite sports teams, the Washington Football Team and Boston Celtics.  He was a quiet and reflective man with a witty sense of humor and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. 

For many years he kept a community garden with a number of  his close friends.  He never lost the love of farming and growing vegetables he learned as a child.  In his later years, He could often be found sitting in the backyard, basking in the sun, and enjoying time with his dog Pepe.

Preceding him in death: his parents William and Eleanora Watford,  his beloved wife Martha Watford, his brothers Nathaniel, Kenny, Selmon, John Henry, David and grandson, Michael Collins.

Survivors include his brother Calvin (Gloria) Watford, of Virginia, sisters Cora Lee Harris of North Carolina, Ernestine Graham (Rosevelt) of South Carolina, and Dora (James) Holloway of VA; two sons Milton (Sheila) and Gregory Watford; eight daughters Mable (Lloyd) Newsome of VA, Carolyn Collins of VA, Shirley Watford of VA, Janice (Rodney) Jeter of MD, Barbara Watford of VA, Connie (Shawn) Matthews of VA, Angela Watford-Twiggs of VA, and Anita (Tyrone)Franklin of VA;  Seventeen grandchildren; Twenty-three great grandchildren; Five great-great grandchildren and many beloved extended family, daughters and sons

A walk through viewing for Mr. Watford will be held from 1:00p.m. until 5:00p.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at C.C. Carter Funeral Home. Inc.

Services for Mr. Watford will be held noon Thursday, February 25, 2021 at New Hope Baptist Church 1415 Big Bethel Rd. Hampton, VA.

Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens.
