Mr. Preston Leroy Price, affectionately known as “Price”, “Pop”, “Papa Price”, and “Dad”, was born March 13, 1929, in Newport News, Virginia. The sixth child born to the late Reverend Jonah and Janie Price. He passed away peacefully at Sentara Careplex Hospital on April 17, 2024, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Price was born and raised in Newport News, Virginia where he accepted Christ at an early age and received his primary and secondary education.  He was a 1948 (Valedictorian) graduate of Huntington High School, and attended Hampton University, formerly Hampton Institute.

Price was an Army Veteran who served in the Korean War.  In honor of his service, a U.S. flag will be flown over the Pentagon, Washington, D.C. on April 26, 2024.  He was employed and retired from Fort Eustis-Civil Service, Real Property Clerk-40 years, and Virginia Department of Transportation-Bridge Tunnel Patroller-22 years.  His strong work ethic and unwavering dedication earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues.

Price was an expert mathematician, master of the English language, and an electronics guru.  He also had a dynamic sense of humor, and some of his favorite things to say were: “Don’t sweat the small stuff, I can dig it, enjoy life, don’t worry about anything, and live life to the fullest.”

Price was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.  Price is proceeded in death by daughter, Angela Price Donnelly; brothers, Bernard, Calvin, Arthur, and Clifton Price; and sister, Zenobia Price. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Bertha B. Price-66 years, daughter, Myrna P. Lassiter, son, Derek R. Price (Cristina), grandson, Marcus L.
