Mr. Orlanda Deans

Mr. Orlanda Deans, affectionately known as "Boog" and "Dean", 89, of Newport News, VA, formerly of Nashville, NC, died peacefully at Riverside Hospital on Monday, May 30, 2022.
Born January 1, 1933, he was the second child born to Alfred Sr. and Mary Deans. Relocating to Virginia in the 1950s, Orlanda worked as a fireman and maintenance man before starting his career at Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company (Shipyard).

He eventually retired after 20+ years of service from both the Shipyard and Sentara Hampton General Hospital. After retirement, with his cousin (Linwood Jones), he launched D & J Electric & HVAC Company becoming known in the community as the "AC man".

Orlanda was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Carrie Robinson Deans; his parents; three sons, Brian Farmer, Charles and Leroy Deans; and 2 siblings, Vanaster Deans and Janet Hall.

Orlanda is survived by his daughter, Ernestine (Val) Deans, and son, Donald Deans (Veronica), both of Newport News; his sisters;  Mary Crudup, Christine Moore, and Pearlene Welton; his brother, Alfred Deans Jr. (Barbara) all of Nashville, NC; Grandchildren: Mary Deans of Nashville, NC; Donte’ Deans (Avian) of Hampton, VA; Quiana Viens of Newport News, VA; and DeMarqus Hill (Alexis) of Garner, NC; 15 great-grandchildren; a HOST of nieces, nephews, cousins, “adopted” children and friends. Orlanda loved the Lord and his family (and wrestling!). A true character, full of stories, whose birth and death both occurred on national holidays. He will truly be missed and forever loved.
