Melvin Jerome White, 57, of Poquoson, Virginia passed away on Thursday January 20,2022 at Riverside Regional Hospital with his sisters and his brother-in-law by his side. Born on May 4, 1964, Melvin was the fourth child of the late Eddie Lee and Irene Mercer White. Melvin was a graduate of Smithfield High School in 1981. Soon after graduation, Melvin joined the Marine Corps. Throughout his life, he would proudly say “ I’m A Marine.” Melvin was also a genuine die-hard Redskins fan. Melvin later began his career as a truck driver for Roadway.
Melvin was loved everywhere he went. Although Melvin loved his entire family, he took pride in telling others that “Verl” was his second momma, how much he loved and respected “Arthur,” how much he loved his “lil buddy” Chase and how Tarsha was his “favorite niece.” Melvin was affectionately known as “Huckabuck” to his close family and friends.
Melvin is also preceded in death by his brother, Alvin White.
Left to cherish his memories are his sisters Vera (James) Blunt and Deborah Croker, both of Newport News, VA; four nieces, Shaletha (Regi) Gray, Tumekia (Tim) Gillon, Latarsha (Quasé) Wormley and Tanesha Semerzier; three nephews, James Blunt, David Hooker and Leonte’ (Christina) Blunt; nine great nieces; eight great nephews; three aunts, Hatti Palmer, Veranetta White and Carol White; and a host of cousins and friends.
