Mr. Maurice “Knox” Reaves lived a life marked by dedication, service, and an unwavering commitment to his faith, family, and community. A man of strong character and deep convictions, Maurice was more than just a husband, father, son, brother, and friend to many, he was a guiding light to all who had the privilege and honor of knowing him.
Born on October 23rd, 1978, in Washington, D.C., to the late Milton Reaves and Linda Gurley, Knox grew into a man of purpose and principle. He was a proud 1997 graduate of Hampton High School, where he laid the foundation for a lifetime of hard work and perseverance. His strong work ethic led him to a career at Walmart Distribution Center in Williamsburg, Virginia, where he served as a dedicated Forklift Operator.
Knox’s faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he was a devoted member of Experience Life Church in Hampton, Virginia. Beyond his professional and spiritual life, Knox was deeply committed to the principles of brotherhood and leadership. As a Master Mason, he dedicated himself to St. Matthews Masonic Lodge #30, demonstrating the values of integrity, service, and unity. His passion for mentorship and uplifting others led him to establish the Royal Men of Solomon #40, an organization founded under the Most Worshipful Hiram Grand Lodge of Newport News, Virginia.
Knox’s deep passion for service and his unwavering dedication to his community were the driving forces behind his many charitable efforts. He believed in the power of giving and worked tirelessly to create meaningful change. His commitment led him to organize and establish impactful initiatives, including the Feed and Clothe the Community program, which took place every third Saturday of the month, ensuring that those in need received nourishment and warmth.
Beyond this, Knox spearheaded numerous fundraisers aimed at uplifting surrounding communities, always striving to provide resources, support, and hope to those facing hardships. His selfless efforts not only brought immediate relief to many but also fostered a spirit of unity and compassion, leaving a legacy of generosity and positive transformation.
Knox’s dedication to the next generation extended to the football field, where he served as a coach for the Kappa Cardinals youth football league. Through mentorship and leadership, he instilled values of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance in young athletes, shaping them not only into skilled players but also into strong individuals with bright futures. His impact on and off the field will be remembered by all who had the privilege of learning from him.
Knox’s legacy is one of strength, generosity, and an enduring impact on those who had the honor of walking beside him. He will be forever remembered as a man who led with his heart, uplifted his community, and left an indelible mark on the lives he touched.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and service that will forever be cherished by those who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his devoted wife, Quanita, his mother, Linda, and his sister, Shawn (John). He was a proud and loving father to Satori, Jamari, London, Xavier, and Kimberly, and a adoring grandfather to his precious granddaughter, Celiné. Knox also leaves behind a host of cherished family members, friends, and a community forever touched by his kindness, wisdom, and dedication. Though he is no longer physically with us, his spirit, love, and the impact he made will remain everlasting.
