Mr. Maurice Alston Obituary

Mr. Maurice La-Sal Alston, age 41, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 13, 2020, at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD.

Maurice was born on March 1, 1979, in Newport News, VA, to the late Marvin Alston and Marlene O’garro-Dargan.  He graduated from Bethel High School class of 1997. Immediately after high school, Maurice went on to Old Dominion University where he began his matriculation toward a baccalaureate degree in Computer Science. Maurice then transferred to Hampton University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management.

In 2009, Maurice’s career sent him to Maryland where he began working as a Program Analyst for the Department of the Treasury, Fiscal Service.  Throughout his tenure with the Department of the Treasury, he also served as the Vice President at Large for the National Treasury Employees’ Union (NTEU), Chapter 202. Maurice felt fulfilled and passionate about his work in both roles.

During Maurice’s young adult years, he accepted the Lord in his life and became a member of Morning Star Baptist Church in Hampton, VA. Maurice served diligently in the sound room every Sunday until he moved to MD.

As most know, Maurice loved his son dearly. Some of his favorite hobbies were; coaching Matthew’s little league teams, cheering on the Chicago Bears Football Team, and playing golf.

Maurice leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Traci Bunn-Alston and son Matthew Alston of Hanover, MD; mother-in-law, Linda Bunn; half-brother Andre’ O’garro of Newport News, VA, half-sister Nycole O’garro of Virginia Beach, VA; and a special niece Kira-Lynn Massenburg of Hampton, VA.  Maurice also leaves behind a special group of friends- Eugene Bryant, Chad Cowger, Marcus Peanort, Samuel Johnson, Shaun Hughes, Ryan Lewis and Lamont Otis.

Maurice will be missed, but never forgotten, by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
