Mr. Mark Spragan Obituary

 

It is with great sadness and Joy that the family of Mark Ashley Spragan, announces the going home of his spirit to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior on January 27, 2019, at home in Hampton, VA, at the age of 61 years.

 

He is remembered by two daughters; Ameka Blano ( DaRon) of Bowie Maryland, Ebone Lockyer (Greg ) of Monroeville, Pennsylvania; son, Mark A. Spragan Jr. of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Mother Margaret F. Spragan of Hampton, Virginia; Step-Mother Shirley Spragan of Hyattsville, Maryland; Sister Carol D. Spragan of Hampton, Virginia; Brothers Willard Spragan Jr. (Roxanne ) of Stafford, Virginia; Shelton Spragan of  Elkridge, Maryland; Alton Hasty of Hyattsville, Maryland; six grand children Indya, Imoni, Cortlen, Dorian, Ceana Copeland, Sebastian Copeland; one great daughter Leah and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 

Mark was born August 26, 1957, to Margaret F. (White) Spragan and Willard Spragan, Sr. (deceased) in Newport News, Virginia.  Mark graduated from Homer L. Ferguson High School in 1975, where he played trumpet with the marching band.  Mark then joined the US Army.  Mark had tours of duty in Korea, Germany, Fort Dix, New Jersey and Fort George G. Meade, Maryland.  Mark met and married, Kimberly A. (Dunston) Spragan on November 16, 1979, at Fort Dix New Jersey. Mark achieved the rank of Specialist 5 and after 8 years of service was Honorably Discharged from the UA Army on October 2, 1983. 

 

Marks marriage to Kimberly ended in February 1997.  She and the kids moved Pittsburgh, PA.  To be close to his family, Mark moved there also.  While there, Mark worked for Sears and made new friends, which lead him to Christ, and in 2001, he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior.  Mark returned home to Hampton in 2003 and shortly afterwards went to work at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Hampton, VA, where he worked until his medical retirement in 2015.  Mark also worked part time at the Langley Air Force Base Commissary.  Mark enjoyed life and family, some of his favorite activities were taking care of his CAR, bowling and playing TONK.  Mark was a very stylish dresser, and while in Pittsburgh PA, became known as the black Clark Gable.  
 

It is the desire of the Spragan family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

 

A memorial service with military honors will be held 1:00p.m. Saturday, Febuary 2, 2019 at New Hope Baptist Church, 1415 Big Bethel Rd Hampton, VA 23666.

A repass will immediately follow the service at the church.
