He was a member of Greater Walters AME Zion Church as a young man and started attend when he was able as an adult.
He was born on September 29, 1960 in Newport News, Virginia. He was the oldest child to the late Leroy Hines Sr. Leroy Jr. (Champ) to his family was educated in Hampton City School System and loved to play football, basketball and he loved to swim. Leroy Jr. loved football and was a New Orleans Saints fan.
Leroy worked in Shipyard and construction but his love was landscaping. He was consider the neighborhood watch looking out for everyone on the block especially the elderly. He was willing to help you out if he could especially around the yard.
Leroy was a man that had to stay busy even during the time of his illness. During the week of his death he was putting Christmas lights and decorations outside. I believe he knew his time was coming and he wanted us to be prepared just in case his health continued to fail, just like him keeping up traditions and looking out for mom. I guess he wanted to start Christmas a little early.
Leroy Jr. struggled with his addiction but by the grace of God he was fighting that battle daily and winning. He had been drug free for over 2 years.
A well-rounded man like his dad, whom he pasted his hobbies on too, which included landscaping, gardening and if everyone knew our dad his love for music of all kinds.
He leaves to cherish his memory his mother Barbara C. Hines; sister, Angela Hines-Williams (Timothy) of Hampton, VA; nephew Jacob Williams Hampton Va.
