Mr. Lee Stanley Artis, surrounded by loved ones, was peacefully called to his heavenly home in the early morning hour on August 30th 2020. The son of Clarence and Amaza Artis, he was born on May 6th 1934 in Ahoskie, North Carolina.
Lee attended Hertford County Public Schools. Following completion of his education, be became employed at the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company where he worked 37 years and 7 months. Lee was a member of The Gates of Praise Way of the Cross Church, Inc. in Hampton, Virginia. Lee had a passion for working on cars and during lawn care. He was passionate about caring and giving to others. In his home he had an open door policy to all.
Lee was married to Helen Sessoms Artis for 65 years and one month. They have three sons and two daughters and one foster daughter.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Amaza Artis, four brothers, Jesse, Eddie, James and Robert. Two sisters Julia and Willie Mae.
He leaves to mourn his passing are his wife Helen, three sons Curtis (Toni), Kenneth (Lisa) and Ronald. Two daughters Sharon Purden and Shelia Spagley and Foster daughter Karen Daniels (Clarence). Ten grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, a sister Betty Jean Hall (Earl). A host of nieces, nephews, foster children, relatives and friends. His memory will forever remain in our hearts.
Viewing for Mr. Artis will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., Friday, September 4, 2020 at C.C. Carter Funeral Home, Inc. No more than 10 attendees will be allowed in the viewing area at anytime. Face mask are required for entry into the funeral home and Social Distancing will be enforced.
A Graveside Service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Hampton Memorial Gardens, 155 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, Virginia, 23666. Face mask are required to be worn at the cemetery.
