Justin Pierre Gilliam was born in Hampton, Virginia, on December 24, 1997, and departed unexpectedly on March 6, 2026, at the age of 28. Justin attended and graduated from Hampton High School in the International Baccalaureate Program on June 18, 2016. He also received his Associate of Arts in Chinese-Mandarin from the Defense Language Institute on August 13, 2018.
Justin joined the Army shortly after graduating from high school. During his tenure, he was able to travel both domestically and abroad, where he was awareded Army Good Conduct Medal and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. One of his favorite places to live was Monterey, California, where he would often go on long drives in his beloved Camaro and enjoy the beautiful mountainside beaches. Justin made countless lasting relationships in whatever place he lived, from Virginia to Hawaii. After retiring from the military, Justin worked under the US Army Training Command at Joint Base Langley - Fort Eustis as a Human Resource Analyst. He also worked part-time at his local Food Lion.
Justin was an avid music lover, often listening to his favorite rappers such as Mac Miller and J. Cole. He loved to write his own raps and published many songs on Soundcloud under the moniker, Amari Jewlz. He wrote and produced dozens of songs and was working on releasing his first EP, Carpool. His discography served as a musical journal, with his introspective lyrics giving insight into his thoughts, feelings, and experiences.
Anyone who knew Justin knew that when he wasn’t working on his music, he was spending his time working out in the gym. Justin took his health and fitness very seriously and was always seen carrying his large water canister around. Always eager to share his progress, he would never give up an opportunity to send photos to friends and family to show off his physique. Although he regarded exercise as a personal challenge to himself, he was far from egocentric. He made it a point to encourage others on their journeys and use his own struggles and knowledge to motivate others.
Justin's departure has deeply affected everyone he encountered. He was a gentle soul with a loving heart and a knack for making those around him feel seen and heard. His life will forever be marked by his legacy of work ethic, generosity, kindness, and creativity. He will be forever missed by those he cherished.
