Mr. Joseph Simons Obituary

Deacon Joseph Harrison Simona also known as “Joe” to his devoted wife, “Toe Joe” to his brothers and sisters, “Daddy” to his children, “Grandpa Joe” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, affectionately known as “Deacon Joe” to his family at Faith Tabernacle and “Papa Joe” to his Richmond Fountain of Deliverance family.

 

In his youth, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and joined  Little Zion Baptist Church in Williamsburg, Virginia.   He was a faithful member of Faith Tabernacle, where his ministries included Deacon of the Church, Trustee, Treasurer, Sunday school teacher and just so much more when it came to his church family. He also loved dearly his Fountain of Youth Deliverance family and often traveled to worship and celebrate with the church family.

 

He was educated in James City Schools and graduated with the Class of 1963. He served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1967. He was a dedicated employee with Ball Metal, William and Mary College, James City Schools and the Colonial Williamsburg Inn.

 

Mr.Joseph was a very humble and caring man of God. He was preceded in death by his parents Carrie and James Simons Sr and brother James Simons Jr.

 

Wonderful memories will always be treasured by his devoted wife Apostle Sheila Simons of 44 years together. Daughters Sheila Simon-Spencer, Tonya Alston (Harold) and Robin Howell (Jaime) Sons Marcus Simons, Xavier Simons, Forest Morris and Johndell Morris. 6 Granddaughters, 5 Grandsons and 13 Great Grandchildren. Brothers Milton Simons (Barbara), Alfred Simons, Williams Simons, Darryl Simons, Reverend Franklin Simons and Tony Edmonds (Vita)  Sisters  Valerie Otey  (Ryland), Arlene Collins (Mike). Aunts Dorothy Bagsby, Betty Phillips and Roberta English (Sam)  One Uncle  Walton Minkins. Sister-in-laws Gwendolyn Tinsley (Reginald), Linda Johnson, Delores Williams, Vinetta Holmes and Ethel Lee (Jeffrey) Brother-in-laws Joseph McMiller, Authur Holmes (Bessie) Angelo 

 

If we have forgotten anyone, please charge it to our heads and not our hearts. We love you all.

 

Services for Mr. Simons will be held noon Saturday, Janaury 5, 2019 at Little Zion Baptist Church, 8625 Pocahontas Trlail. Williamsburg, VA. 

 

Interment with military honors will be held 1:00p.m. Monday, January, 7, 2019 at Albert G. Horton Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Suffolk, VA. 

 

Viewing for Mr. Simons will be held from noon until 6:00p.m. Friday January 4, 2019 at C.C. Carter Funeral Home, Inc.
