Mr. Joseph D. Ponds

Mr. Joseph Derious Ponds was born on March 13, 1954, to the late Dewey Rayvarn Ponds and Nettie Deborah Ponds in Newport News, Virginia. He attended public schools in Newport News and graduated from Warwick High School. He later matriculated at Norfolk State University, where he earned a degree in Mass Media Communications.

Joseph’s love of computers led him to DeVry Institute in Atlanta, Georgia, where he earned a degree in Electronics Engineering.

After graduating from DeVry, Joseph moved to California, where he resided for many years before eventually settling in Phoenix, Arizona. He purchased a home in Phoenix and lived there for the past 30 years.

Joseph surrendered his life to Christ at an early age and was baptized by the Reverend W. B. Schiele. He was raised in a close-knit and loving family and was the third of seven siblings. He was preceded in death by his father, Dewey Rayvarn Ponds, and his eldest brother, Elwin Rayvarn Ponds.

He leaves to cherish his memory one son, Joseph D. Ponds; two sisters, Patrece Ponds and Kimberly P. McGlone (William); three brothers, Jeffrey N. Ponds, Mark A. Ponds (Tonjala), and Gary Q. Ponds; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Joseph will be remembered for his intellect, humor, and quiet strength, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

The family of Mr. Joseph E. Ponds has entrusted his final care to C. C. Carter Funeral Home.
