It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jomo Sharif Davis, who was born on February 7, 1970, and departed this life peacefully on July 29, 2025. Jomo was the beloved son of the late Michael Davis and Cheryl (Adams) Davis, and a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Jomo was educated in the Virginia public school system and graduated from Hampton High School in 1988. After graduation, he went on to serve with honor in the United States Army Reserve. Jomo loved fishing as one of his favorite pass times. He was an excellent cook and loved preparing delicious foods for family functions.
Jomo’s greatest pride was his family. He was the loving father of Chinelle Gibson and the late Chantel Gibson, a grandfather lovingly known as ‘pop pop’ to Dominque (DJ), Miyah, Noah, Nas, Jiya and an unborn granddaughter who will one day learn of his strength, humor, and enduring love. He also leaves behind a multitude of bonus children and grandchildren whom he often spoke of fondly.
Jomo is survived by his siblings: sisters Kellie Jackson (husband George, Florida), Khadijah Jones (Robbie, Virginia Beach) and brothers Guyneille David, Sr (wife Darice, Florida), Aaron-Bey Davis (Philadelphia), Ahmed Davis (wife Darlene, Philadelphia). His bond with us was unbreakable, grounded in deep love and shared memories.
He also leaves behind his uncles: Reginald Adams (Philadelphia), Lamonte Adams (wife Saadia, Philadelphia), Douglas Wright (wife Celia, Newport News), Anthony Davis (wife Odella Colorado), and Dr. Richard Davis, Jr. (wife Karen, California); and his aunts: Minister Jacqueline Harris (Newport News), Cristal Cotmon (husband James, Florida), Gwendolyn Butler (Philadelphia) the late Minister Carol Boyd, nieces Alexia Jackson, Deja Jackson, Aliyah Davis, Kathryn Davis and Sidney Davis nephews Christian Jones, Davonta David, Guyneille David, Jr., Aaron Davis, Jason Davis,
Jomo was a part of a large and loving family that included a host of cousins, great aunts, uncles, and close friends—many of whom he loved like family. His ability to connect, his loyal heart, and his quiet strength will never be forgotten.
Those who knew Jomo will remember his calm spirit, his unwavering love for his family, and the way he made others feel seen and valued. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the memories that will be cherished forever.
Jomo Sharif Davis will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
