Peacefully, on Monday, January 27, 2020 Jehovah sent his angel to whisper in the ear of a husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend saying “enter thou now my son from labor to eternal rest”. Away went all the cares and sufferings of this world, for our beloved Johnnie L. Harris, Jr.
Our beloved Johnnie L. Harris was born to the late Johnnie L. Harris and Willie Canara Parker Harris.
"Coonie", as he was affectionately called by his family and friends received his formal education through Northampton County Schools, NC and later joined the armed forces. In 1957 he was employed by Newport News Shipbuilding until retirement and during his tenure with the shipyard he also worked as a cab driver part time for Porter’s Cab Service.
At an early age he joined the Mount Zion Baptist Church, Margarettsville, NC and in 1996 he was baptized and became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses where he remained an active member until his demise.
On September 2, 1954 he was united in holy matrimony to Julia B. Joyner and to this union one son was born, John Louis Harris.
Johnnie was a hard worker and was very family oriented. He was known as the family Historian because if anyone had questions about the history of the family he knew the answer. Johnnie was very loyal and devoted in his servitude to Jehovah and witnessing to everyone he encountered.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Alsmith Harris, Curtis Harris, and Carl Harris.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 65 years, Julia B. Harris, two sons; John L.
