Mr. John Alexander Futrell, 65, of Hampton, VA, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and great-grandfather whose quiet, unassuming manner, dry sense of humor, and faith touched everyone who knew him.
John was married for 35 wonderful years to his beloved wife, Angela. Together they built a life centered on love, family, and faith. He leaves to cherish his memory four devoted children — Brandon, Ryan, Jessica, and Alexis — as well as four grandchildren- Ryan S., Makenzi, Mason, Raven and two great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life.
Born in Newport News (Whitaker Memorial Hospital), John received his primary education in the Newport News and Hampton Public Schools and was a proud graduate of Hampton High School — Go Crabbers! He then completed the prestigious Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice School, where he trained as an electrician by trade. He went on to dedicate 34 years of service to the shipbuilding industry, where his skill, work ethic, and quiet leadership earned him the admiration and respect of colleagues and friends alike.
A man of strong faith, John served faithfully as a deacon at Temple of Peace Church and was an active member of the church’s finance committee. His steadfast spirit, humility, and compassion were evident in all that he did, reflecting his deep commitment to his faith and community.
In his leisure time, John enjoyed playing golf, cheering for his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers, and listening to music. His warm smile, easy manner, and generous heart will be remembered by all who were blessed to know him.
John was preceded in death by his father, Nelson Futrell, Sr. He leaves to mourn his passing his loving mother, Brenda Futrell; a brother, Nelson Leonard Futrell (Demetria); a sister, Brenelle Futrell and nieces, nephews, relatives, church family, and friends.
It is the desire of the Futrell family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
