“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home.” ~ John 14:1-2
Mr. Jesse “Bobby” Hinton, Jr. departed his life Friday evening, February 21, 2025 at the Hampton and Health Rehab.
He was the first child of eight children born to the late Jesse and Mamie Ruth Staton Hinton. He was born November 8, 1948, in Tarboro, NC (Edgecombe County). He was preceded in this journey by his wife Lucille Johnson Hinton, two brothers, Samuel Lee Hinton and Dennis Earl Hinton, two sisters Bettie Jean Hinton and Mamie Louise Hinton.
Bobby gave his life to Christ as a teenager under Reverand Staton at Hart’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church (when it was located in Tarboro, NC). He received his education in Edgecombe County School System up into the 12th grade at Carver High School. He moved to the Hampton Roads Area in Virginia to begin work at the Newport News Shipbuilder, until he changed his career to work for the City of Newport News in transportation. During his later years, he worked as part-time at Hampton University as a dedicated member of the custodial staff. He retired as landscaper for Hall, Fox, & Atlee P.C. Law Firm, Hampton, VA.
Bobby was a dedicated worker who liked to stay busy and used his skills and enjoyment of landscaping to keep his family’s and friend’s lawn groomed. He was meticulous about this and would go behind the hired companies of his family members’ home associations. In inclement weather, he would be the first one up to shovel the snow for his parents (when visiting home), neighbors, and other family friends. He loved to ride his grandchildren, niece, nephew, great nieces, and great nephews. He loved to visit his family and would show up at any time of the night or the crack of dawn. He took joy in eating a popsicle as a nice cold treat at any time – whether it was during these visits or after he finished his landscaping duties on a hot summer day. Pops will be missed making the nightly “anytime” visits shared with laughter and fun.
Bobby leaves to cherish his memories his son Gary L. Johnson (Melvina) of Hampton, VA; stepson Christopher D. Johnson of Hampton, VA; five grandchildren Quashawn L. Cooper, Lamonte T. Cooper, Gary L. Johnson, Jr., Rahzell L. Johnson, and Keshawn L. Johnson all of the Hampton Roads Area, VA; and seven great grandchildren; a brother-in-law (Clyde Johnson of Hampton, VA); three sisters-in-law (Lenora Pittman of Newport News, VA, Addie Hicks of Hampton, VA, and Mittie Ann Green of Newport VA) two brothers, Marcus Dexter Hinton (Robin) of Rocky Mount, Melvin Ray Hinton (Doreen) of Rocky Mount, NC; a sister, Estella Virginia Blunt of Newport News, VA; special niece Shaina Blunt of Newport News, VA; special nephew; Theodore Blunt III of Prince George’s County, MD; two special great nieces Shaila Blunt and Cassidy Blunt both of Newport News, VA; two special great nephews (Malik Manley and Saequan Manley of Newport News), two special aunts (Mary Lee Hinton of Rocky Mount, NC and Frances Horton of Hampton, VA; a host of nephews, nieces, great nieces, a great-great niece, and other relatives and friends.
