Mr. Jeffery Reed affectionately known as “JR” to many, 63, of Newport News, VA departed this life on Monday, December 29, 2025 at Riverside Medical Center in Newport News, VA. He attended, and was a member of the House of The Word Outreach Center Church in Newport News, VA, where he accepted God back into his life fully.
Jeffery was born to the late George Reed Sr. and Evelyn Smith. He was educated in Lynchburg City Public Schools, and later attended Job Corp. He took up a few trades while there, but his main trade which he loved more than anything was, Mechanics. He would always have a thing for working on cars, whether he could physically do the work himself, or not. Anytime we, or a friend of his had an issue with their vehicle, he would call up his good ole friend/brother Paul to fix any issues that we may have had. He would do all the talking, while Uncle Paul did the work. He’ll tell you in a heart beat that, he was the best mechanic in the world, and of course at Job Corp.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Reed Sr. and Evelyn Smith. His three uncles Phil Sr., Simon Sr., and John Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memories a daughter, Lakeisha Graves of Chester, VA; and a son, Jeffrey Cook Sr. of Petersburg, VA. Three grandchildren, Kwelasia Graves-Dudley and Semaj Carter of Chester, VA; and Jeffrey Cook Jr. of Petersburg, VA. One Great-Grandson, Ahk’Tavius Evans (who he loved more than anything).
He also leaves to cherish a Brother George Reed Jr., three sisters Georgette Keatts, Tammy Herndon, and Stacey Heflin, three bonus little grand/great-grandchildren who he also loved more than anything; Nikko Brown, Heaven “Heavenly” Abernathy, and Mazikeen
“Maze” Harris. Right along w/his great-grand, these 4 little people had him wrapped so tight around his fingers. When he bought or did for one, he bought/did for all the same.
His real close friend/right-hand man/brother Paul Garnet, his adopted daughter Nicole Blackwell (who was also his Mental Health Counselor), and his longtime/real good friend, who he loved so dearly, Linda Williams. A host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; among them, Bertha Massenburg (his daughter’s mom).
It is the desire of the Reed family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
The family of Mr. Jeffrey Reed has entrusted his final care to C. C. Carter Funeral Home.
