Mr. Jayland DeShawn Kelley, affectionately known as “Kaveman” departed this life on April 18, 2025, at 5:19 p.m., at the young age of 21. Born on July 30, 2003, at Portsmouth Navy Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia, Jayland was a beloved son, grandson, brother, nephew, and friend whose vibrant presence left an unforgettable mark on those who knew him.
Jayland was the cherished son of Sheryl Weston and Larry Kelley, and the treasured grandson of Wilbert Bradsher Jr., Isadora Kelley, and the late Barbara Bradsher and the late Larry Bailey. He was also the great-grandson of Louise Kelley, and preceded in death by his great-grandparents Zuire Bradsher, Henry Thomas Bradsher and Richard Kelley as well as his great-uncle Thomas Lee Bradsher.
A proud graduate of Bethel High School, Class of 2021, Jayland was known for his bright mind and loyal heart. When he wasn't working, he could often be found doing what he loved most—playing video games while on FaceTime with his brothers and nephews, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and love.
His joking personality and charming smile brought joy to everyone around him and will be deeply missed. Jayland is survived by his three devoted brothers: Devon, Devonte, and Kavon, and his four loving nephews.
He is also survived by a wide circle of family who adored him: Aunts: Rakeishia White (Charlotte, NC), LaKeishia Wiggins and Kimberly Bradsher (Raleigh, NC), LaToya Roane (Washington, DC), and Marlo Jackson (Abbeville, LA) Uncle: Datheian Landry (Abbeville, LA) Great-aunts: Geraldine Hunter (Gregory Sr.) of Newport News, VA; Lucille Woods of Garner, NC; Olia Carter of Newport News, VA Great-uncles: Robert Bradsher of Hampton, VA; Joseph Kelley (Diane) of King George, VA; Thomas Tomlin (Eleanora) of White Stone, VA; Clifton Tomlin, Allie Kelley (Amy) of Newport News, VA; and Vernett Kelley of Brandywine, MD He also leaves to cherish his memory a host of cousins and friends, whose lives were touched by his kindness, humor, and love.
Though his time with us was far too short, Jayland’s memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones. His light, laughter, and love remain a lasting legacy.
