Mr. Jared M. “Flip” Wilson, Sr. passed away peacefully at his home in Hampton, Virginia on January 21, 2025.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary M. Wilson, two sons, Alan T. Wilson and Shawn A. Wilson. He is survived by two children, Jared M. Wilson, Jr. and Shawna N. Lomax, three grandchildren and a host of loving friends and relatives also survive him.
Jared was born in Cedartown, Georgia on August 25, 1941. His family moved to Jacksonville, Florida during his formative years. It was here where his mother Elizabeth met and married a Navy man who received orders to relocate to Norfolk Naval Base in Virginia. While in Virginia Jared met and married his Junior High School sweetheart Mary M. Wilson. From this union four children were born.
Jared spent most of his professional career as a Crane Inspector at the Newport News Shipyard developing meaningful and lasting friendships along the way. He was an avid tennis player in his younger years and often participated in local tennis tournaments. He also enjoyed carpentry, renovation and home improvement projects, as well as tinkering with cars in his spare time.
Jared really enjoyed a robust family life as he loved spending quality time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
