Mr. James R. Stephens

James Rudolph “Steve” Stephens, 83, went home to be with the Lord on December 11, 2021 in his residence in Hampton, VA.  Steve was born on January 12, 1938 in Emporia, VA  to the late Isaiah and Mattie Stephens.

Steve attended Huntington High School in Newport News, VA and graduated 1957. He enlisted in the Air Force on June 13, 1957 and was honorable discharge on June 13, 1961. Later in life he met and married Josephine Stephens in 1995. Steve had a fulfilling career with Newport News Shipyard (39 years) and Newport News Public School (10 years). While enjoying his retirement, Steve enjoyed fishing, sports, fellowship with his classmates of 57 years and friends.

Steve had a very strong will and will be missed by all. He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife, Josephine Stephens, brother Wilbert (Irma) Stephens (Hampton, VA), daughter, Kim Lee Robinson (Hampton, VA), sons, James Everett Stephens (Hampton, VA), Devin Landon Stephens (Tifton, GA) and stepson Bryant Connell Outlaw (Deerfield VA). 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, 1 niece, 1 nephew (preceded) and host of relatives and friends.

Viewing for Mr. Stephens  will be held from 1:00p.m. until  5:00p.m. Friday, December 17, 2021 at C.C.Carter Funeral Home,Inc. 

Services for Mr. Stephens will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, December 18; 2021 at New Hope Baptist Church, 1415 Big Bethel Rd, Hampton, VA. by Min  Harvey Cook  

Interment with Military Honors will be held at Hampton Memorial Gardens.
