Mr. James Philip Parker, Jr., affectionately known as Jimmy, was born on October 25, 1945, to James Parker, Sr., and Sarah King Parker in Wilmington, North Carolina. He attended Wilmington Public Schools before relocating to Newport News, Virginia.
Jimmy met and married Brenda Parker and became the stepfather to John Parker. From that union, two children were born: Melissa (deceased) and Melody.
He was employed at Newport News Shipbuilding before joining the International Longshoremen’s Association in 1984. Jimmy worked diligently as a longshoreman until his retirement in 2012. In addition to his full-time work, he also worked as a part-time cab driver.
Jimmy loved fishing and cooking—two passions he often shared with others. He would clean and fillet the fish he caught, generously offering them to family and friends. He also enjoyed preparing home-cooked meals for others on many occasions. Jimmy had a giving heart and was always willing to help those in need, often offering support in quiet and generous ways, including financially.
He also loved his cars, especially Cadillacs. Every Cadillac he owned was kept spotless inside and out, always with a signature tree-shaped air freshener hanging from the mirror. Jimmy took great pride in his appearance—always well-groomed and neatly dressed—and he brought that same care to his surroundings. His home was always clean and orderly, a reflection of the pride he took in everything he owned.
Above all, Jimmy loved his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister- Josephine Parker-Jones-Green, and brother- Carl Parker.
He is survived by his daughter, Melody Hardy(Anthony); stepson John Parker; granddaughter, Melissa Stallworth (Marquis); and great-grandchildren, Jaden Jimenez, Marvell Stallworth, and Marshall Stallworth. He also leaves behind three sisters, Shirley King, Margaret Parker White, and Alice "Nita" Parker; one brother, Frank Parker; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; his friend of over 50 years, Michael Deloatch; and dear neighbors, Willie and Terri Gatling.
Jimmy will always be remembered for his hard work, big heart, and the love he shared with his family and friends. He touched many lives and will be deeply missed.
It is the desire of the Parker/Hardy families that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
