Mr. James Leroy Marrow was born on May 5th, 1932 to the late Florence Jones and James Marrow in Newport News, VA. On Sunday, September 6, surrounded by his loving family, God dispatched his angels and called James home to eternal rest.
Mr. Marrow was a Veteran of the United States Army. He accepted Christ as his personal savior and was a long life member at Union Baptist Church in Newport News, VA. He was raised in Newport News in the “Salters Creek" area where he was affectionately known by family and friends as “PeeWee".
Mr. Marrow retired from the Newport News Shipbuilding after 45 years as a “Master Shipbuilder". He was a prideful man who loved his family.
Mr. Marrow was preceded in death by his mother, Florence Jones, father, James Marrow, three brothers, Herbert Marrow, Harry Marrow and Albert Marrow, daughter Lenae Marrow, great grandson JahSaun Marrow-Threat, son-n-law Charles Hunter Sr., and his long time friend & companion Celestine Grimes. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
He leaves to cherish fond memories: one sister-in-law Barbara Jean Marrow, one cousin, Floyd “Sting” Melvin of Poughkeepsie, NY., five daughter’s, Deborah Marrow, Anita Hunter, Charlene Marrow, Valita Howard of Newport News, and Sabrina Marrow of Greenville, NC., two sons, Sherwood Marrow of Greenville, NC., and Curtis Marrow of Colorado Springs, CO., a special grandson D’Shawn Marrow, one god-daughter, Lakeshia Grimes, and one god-son, Nasmah Grimes both of Newport News, along with 17 other grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.
Viewing for Mr. Marrow will be held from 1:00p.m until 5:00p.m Friday, September 11, 2020 at C.C.Carter Funeral Home, Inc.
Services for Mr. Marrow will held noon Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Union Baptist Church 361 Maple Ave. Newport News, VA. by Pastor Richard Mims.
Internment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens.
