Mr. James Jarvis, Sr. Obituary

Mr,James Henry Jarvis, Sr., affectionately known to family and friends as “Jimmy” or “Jim,” passed away peacefully on September 28, 2025, at Riverside Hospital, with his loving wife and daughter by his side. He was 82 years old. Born on August 6, 1943, in Newport News, Virginia, James attended Carver High School and was a member of First Baptist Church Denbigh during his early years. On October 21, 1967, James married his devoted wife, Marilyn Wilson Jarvis, and to that union, two children were born.

James was a talented craftsman who worked for many years at Colonial Kitchens, where he honed his skills in woodworking. In 1987, he took a leap of faith and opened his own business, JJ’s Custom Cabinets, where he provided beautifully crafted cabinetry for both residential and commercial clients until his health declined. Outside of work, James enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved fishing, hunting, and watching all types of sports.

Above all, family meant everything to him. He cherished spending time with his wife and children, and his grandchildren were truly the light of his life—he looked forward to their frequent phone calls and visits.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy Jarvis and Lucille Jarvis; his son, James Jarvis, Jr.; and his brothers, Samuel Jarvis, Horace Jarvis, and Kenneth Jarvis.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 57 years, Marilyn Wilson Jarvis; daughters, Kimberly Bottley and Robin Echoles; daughter-in-law, Bridget Jarvis; six sisters, Hattie Camp, Doris James, Earnestine Yetman, Renae Roundtree, Wanda Jarvis-Baker, and Karen Collins; three brothers, Wallace Jarvis, John Jarvis, and Terry Jarvis; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will miss him dearly.

James will be remembered for his kindness, strong work ethic, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy will live on through the lives he touched and the craftsmanship he so passionately shared with the world.

It is the desire of the Jarvis family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
