The Legendary Christian Singer, Brother James Leon Elam, 83 of Newport News, VA peacefully ascended to his heavenly home on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.
Brother Elam was most notably the lead singer of the well-knownQuartet, Sunset Travelers of Newport News, VA. Then in the 1980’s he stepped out on his own and became a solo artist.
“Jimmy” as he was affectionately called was a student in the Newport News, VA school system; proudly hailing Huntington High School as his alma mater. Occupationally, “Jimmy” spent his early years at Old Dominion Metals of Hampton, VA. His latter years were spent at Hampton University of Hampton, VA.
Brother Elam was a faithful member of Triumph Pentecostal Church of Deliverance of Newport News, Virginia.
His beloved family left to cherish his memories include his wife, Dr. Mildred S. Elam of Newport News, VA; two daughters, Sharon E. Jackson (Eric); Katrina Eley (Shannon); five granddaughters Kayla Lynch, Ariana Jackson, Kaitlyn Jackson, Miya Jackson, and KaMya Lynch, all of Newport News, VA.; additionally three grandsons, Aric Jackson of Hampton, VA; Keshawn Lynch, and Blake Jackson of Newport News, VA as well as one great grandson Noah Jackson of Hampton, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
It is the desire of the Elam family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
The family of Mr. James Elam has entrusted his final care to C. C. Carter Funeral Home.
