Mr. Jailon Smith, affectionately known as "Andrew" by his family, was born on June 8, 2007, in Newark, New Jersey. After a courageous 17-year battle with sickle cell anemia, Jailon was freed from this disease and called home to Heaven by the Father on February 17, 2025.
From a young age, Jailon showed remarkable resilience and determination. Although sickle cell anemia posed many physical challenges, Jailon’s spirit was unstoppable. His passion for life shone through, and despite the limitations of his illness, he pursued his love for tennis with unwavering enthusiasm. Jailon was never defined by his disease; instead, he was a vibrant young man who radiated energy and positivity. His doctors and family marveled at how little time he spent in the hospital compared to other children with the condition. Jailon was truly a fighter.
At just 7 years old, Jailon began to explore his natural talent for animation and video editing, creating and sharing his work on YouTube. His artistic abilities were extraordinary; he could draw anything and everything, and his talent for animation only grew as he got older. As his big sister often called him, Jailon was a genius in many ways.
Jailon was set to graduate from Phoebus High School this June and was excited to begin the next chapter of his life. He had earned a full academic scholarship to Randolph College, where he planned to further develop his computer knowledge and animation skills. His future was bright, and we are so proud of everything he accomplished in his short time with us.
Beyond his accomplishments, Jailon was a kind, gentle soul. He was always polite, soft-spoken, and never raised his voice. His friends described him as the life of the party, someone who brought joy to everyone around him. Jailon’s infectious spirit and loving nature will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Jailon is survived by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. We will miss you dearly, Spider-Man, but we take comfort knowing that you are now at peace in Heaven. Until we meet again.
