On Sunday, April 21, 2019, Resurrection Sunday, Isaiah James Robinson departed from this earthly life and entered into his eternal rest.
He was surrounded by his loving family at his home in Hampton, Virginia. Isaiah, who was also affectionally known as “Ike”, was born on January 7, 1938 in Durham, North Carolina to the late Roy Benjamin Robinson and Flossie Mae Robinson.
Isaiah was the fourth child in a family of nine siblings. He graduated from Little River High School in Durham, North Carolina and in 1960, moved to Hampton, VA.
In September of 1962, Isaiah married the love of his life, Cleo Carter Robinson and together they raised three children, Paulette Taylor, Reginald Robinson and Crystal Robinson-Smith.
After relocating to the Hampton Roads area, Isaiah had an extended career as a Foreman at Newport News Shipbuilding where he eventually retired after 32 years of service. As a retiree, he drove medical transport vans, servicing the elderly in the community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Frances Woods , Malinda McCallum, Margie Robinson, and Bessie Robinson and one brother, Robert Lee Robinson.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Cleo Robinson of 55 years, two daughters, Paulette M. Taylor (Johnny) of Durham, North Carolina and Crystal Robinson-Smith of Camp Springs, Maryland; one son, Reginald V. Robinson of Hampton Virginia; two grandchildren, Johnny R. Taylor Jr. and Myia K. Taylor both of Durham North Carolina, two “adopted” grandchildren Stanley and Andrew Cypress of Hampton, Virginia, three brothers, Roy H. Robinson (Sally) of Durham, North Carolina, Leon Robinson (Cynthia) of Durham, North Carolina, Phillip N. Robinson of Durham, North Carolina, three brother-in-laws, Gene B. Woods of Raleigh, North Carolina, William K. Carter (Renee) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Dwayne A. Carter, of Hampton Virginia; one sister-in-law Jacqueline Tyson of Hampton, Virginia, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Isaiah enjoyed the simple things in life such as gardening, watching sports, and listening to jazz and blues music and the poetry of Langston Hughes. He was an avid follower of politics and enjoyed political debates with friends and family. A month before his transition, he received Christ as his personal savior.
Isaiah was a strong man and provider for his family, his memory will forever be in our hearts.
